Chris Weigand is out to entertain and enlighten our middle grade to young adult readers, and she is doing it in a very spiritual way!
In her trilogy, The Twelve Pillars, her fantasy characters come face to face with evil in a world of princes, princesses, kings and wizards in a planet far away. Weigand has her young characters facing some major challenges in an imaginary world, however, much can be transferred into the problems some teens face in our world today. She paints a picture of the fact that we always have the choice to do the right thing.
Her two main characters, Joachim and Brandan will come of age and endure choices which test their faith and inspire our younger readers to have faith even in the darkest situations.
Her hidden messages are revealed to her young readers throughout her novels.
As a children’s reading specialist I can only say we need more novels like this one. I believe there is a new trend for our younger readers, called Spiritual Fantasy or Spiritual Paranormal, where readers gain inspiration, faith, and strength through God.
We are looking forward to her new release, Sanctuary of the Nine Dragons, due in February of 2014 as the saga of Joachim and Brandan continue. She has amped up the action and magic.
Chris is also a member of Authors for Kids,a group of other like minded authors who provide this type of genre for our younger readers.
As a Children’s Reading Specialist and parent, I highly recommend these books to delight the imagination and inspire the young soul.
